Folly Beach

Just south of Charleston, South Carolina, is the island town of Folly Beach with six miles of beautiful beaches and breath-taking ocean views. Locals refer to the town as the “Edge of America” and take pride in the cleanliness, beauty and hospitality extended to visitors as well as new residents.
A Brief Glimpse into the History of Folly Beach
A rich, colorful history adds to the intrigue and fascination of the city. The earliest known record of the location is from 1696. Before The Civil War, the town was actually known as Coffin Island. This was due to the fact that the island was so isolated from the mainland. In fact, the isolation made it a common spot for trouble-making pirates. During the Civil War, it became a hold for Union soldiers who coined the location, Folly Beach. As time progressed, so did the evolution of the town as the 1930’s saw an abundance of growth. During this time, the original pier, boardwalk, Oceanfront Hotel and Atlantic Pavilion were constructed.
